Main Street Donates Care Packages to Veterans at VA Hospital
In November 2021, Main Street provided care packages to the men and women who are in long-term inpatient care at the Houston Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital (https://www.va.gov/houston-health-care/). The VA Houston Healthcare System is one of the leading health care systems serving Veterans in the South-Central VA Health Care Network and is dedicated to improving the lives of Veterans and their families every day through outstanding health care, trained health care providers and medical research. Over nine million Veterans count on VA for quality health care, infused with a deep understanding of their complex needs and the challenges they face.
Main Street organized a drive at our corporate offices where our employees’ put together care packages for patients. Additionally, Main Street and its employees contributed over $7,000 in monetary donations which allowed our team to shop for additional supplies. Main Street was able to provide a care package to over 50 veterans and active-duty service members. Each care package contained items such as toiletries, undergarments, snacks, chap stick, slippers, gift cards, etc. to make the patient’s stay a little more enjoyable.
In addition to the donation drive, employees also volunteered their time to help sort supplies, package and deliver the care packages to the VA Hospital as a part of the Main Street Volunteer Time Off (VTO) Program.
