Main Street Volunteers at Houston Arboretum & Nature Center
On March 1st, 2024, volunteers from Main Street dedicated their time to the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center. The Arboretum is a 155-acre non-profit nature sanctuary encompassing woodland, meadow, savanna, and wetland habitats. The organization plays a vital role in protecting native plants and animals in the city’s heart, where development threatens their survival. The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center, one of the first nature education facilities for children in the state of Texas, provides services to over 400,000 visitors annually and nature education for more than 10,000 children annually.
Main Street’s team of volunteers was given a special opportunity to clear and prepare the Willow Oak Trail to make it accessible for wheelchair users. Main Street donated $15,000 to the construction and supplies for the Willow Oak Trail project. In addition to the donation, a team of 20 employees volunteered their time to prepare for construction of the new ADA-compliant path by shoveling gravel, filling wheelbarrows and transporting the gravel to another location within the park.
